About Jo’s Kitchen

Jo Lawrence is a talented Chef who works across Scotland and the North of England catering with her experienced team for a variety of events, from weddings in Scottish Castles to high end shooting parties and fabulous private celebrations.

I have always been passionate about cooking but enjoyed a successful career in the Corporate world. Following redundancy in 2014, I was keen to make changes and wanted to ensure my next career was connected to my passion; food. 

One Sunday afternoon I was entertaining a group of dear friends over a long lunch. I’d prepared a real feast (I just love sharing food!) and one of my guests said, “Wow — is it always like this in Jo’s Kitchen?!”  

It truly was a light bulb moment and from that day, my business ‘Jo’s Kitchen’ was born! I love to be able to offer the quality and variety of food that I cook for my own family using the wonderful ingredients we have locally here in East Lothian. Catering for such a wide variety of events and sharing special moments with clients is such a privilege and I just love providing a truly bespoke service, whatever your occasion. 

I grew up in Galloway — part of a very foodie family and credit my love of good food and cooking to my mother and grandmother who were both keen and excellent cooks. Whilst I have no formal cooking qualifications, I have a real passion for it as well as exceptionally high standards. I do have the highest award from The Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland (REHIS) so you are in safe hands.

I am always trying out new ideas and often invent dishes to suit a client. The more I cook, the more I love it and I can’t wait to cook for you!

The journey so far

Since I started the business in 2014 with a small pop-up supper in a local coffee shop, I have been on a very exciting journey. From that first event we started to get bookings from private clients which spread rapidly through word of mouth.

I took my first wedding catering booking in 2014 and in 2023 we catered over 100 weddings. This culminated in 2024 when we became runners up in the Confetti Awards which was a huge honour.

We do lots of private events across East Lothian and into the Scottish Borders as well as corporate lunches and dinners. I am so proud to have cooked in some wonderful Castles and fabulous homes and have even cooked for a few celebrities along the way. We still do the odd pop up when time allows, so do keep an eye on our social media for updates.

Our suppliers

Based in East Lothian, we are fortunate to have some of the very finest food and drink suppliers in Scotland on our doorstep. From award winning meats and dairy produce to delicious artisanal cheeses, chutneys, oils and drinks. At Jo’s Kitchen, we pride ourselves on supporting our local community and ensuring that the produce we serve at our events is sourced as locally as possible. Our customers are increasingly interested in the provenance of the produce on their menus and we are proud to be able to offer traceability.
